The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed a hefty liability of ₹65.7 crore on Keitan Parek, Rohit Salgawkar, and others involved in an extended front-running scam. The case centers on insider trading where Salgawkar, a Singapore-based investor, received confidential trade information about a major U.S.-based fund, Big Client. This dealer tipped off Parek and others to execute trades on behalf of the fund, leading to violations of SEBI's directives. Parek, in particular, is responsible for 90% of the questionable trades. SEBI has acted swiftly by issuing an interim order to prevent further violations while a final order is pending, underlining the seriousness of Parek's continued non-compliance since 2000.
