A strong polar vortex hits during my overnight stay at an off-grid cabin. My visit to the cabin starts out well with light snow to cover my tracks. I make a big batch of salmon jerky above my woodstove and enjoy the warmth of the cozy cabin. Overnight a powerful snowstorm hits, followed by a polar vortex. with heavy snowfall, strong winds and bone chilling temperatures. This cabin is in a deep valley surrounded by trees, and is somewhat protected. Ground level is a different story, the open backroads are prone to drifting. and the visibility would be next to zero. I'm at risk of being stranded due to very poor road conditions. Normally, an unexpected extra day at the cabin wouldn't be a huge deal because I have plenty of firewood, food and supplies to last weeks. However, I have an important appointment the following day that I can't reschedule. The storm isn't letting up and I'm concerned about getting home on time. My wife is at work and can't attempt a pickup till around five in the evening. Its was only noon at the time so I kept busy cutting firewood and restocking the cabin. Around three o'clock I started cleaning up and putting things away. It takes a good hour to shut down and secure the cabin. All my tools must be brought back inside, the window coverings put back on, capping the stovepipe and finally locking the door. I make the one hour trek to the road to see how the conditions are, so I can give my wife a heads up. Watch the rest of the video to find out what happens
