Skiing Vail Colorado during a thin snow season — but still finding great terrain.
In this video we set out to see what Vail is actually like when conditions aren’t perfect. We start the day in the Northwoods terrain off Lift 11, exploring North Rim and skiing directly under the lift line looking for soft snow pockets.
From there we head over to the front side bump runs, lapping Prima and Pronto where Vail always seems to build some of the best moguls on the mountain.
Next we make the classic transfer across the resort, skiing Zot down to Lift 3 and working our way into Game Creek Bowl via Lift 7. Even in a low snow year, Game Creek still had some fun lines and consistent coverage.
We finish the day dropping Kangaroo Cornice, then head into Mid-Vail for lunch at the Mid-Vail Restaurant where I grabbed the famous “Look Ma” burger — about an $8 employee meal with my discount.
This ended up being a full Vail sampler day: Northwoods trees, frontside moguls, groomers, and backside terrain — a realistic look at what a normal ski day at Vail is actually like without fresh powder.
