PHILIPPINE FLAG
1) WHITE EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE - symbolizing liberty, equality and fraternity.
HORIZONTAL BLUE STRIPE - for peace, truth, and justice.
2) HORIZONTAL RED STRIPE - patriotism and valor.
3) EIGHT RAYED SUN - for unity, freedom, people's democracy, and sovereignty. Each ray represents the first eight provinces of the Philippines which was declared under martial law during the Philippine Revolution (Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Manila, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Tarlac)
4) THREE FIVE-POINTED STARS - stands for the three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The flag design was conceived by President Emilio Aguinaldo and sewn by Marcela Marino de Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo, and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad in Hong Kong and first flown in battle on May 28, 1898.
