Shadows of The Sword is a powerful cross-cultural collaboration that brings Eastern and Western string traditions into a compelling musical dialogue.
Composed and conducted by Ray Lin, the work explores the expressive depth of both the Chinese pipa and the Western string trio, allowing each voice to retain its distinctive character while weaving them into a unified sound world.
Throughout the piece, the sharp brilliance of the pipa meets the lyrical warmth of violin, viola and cello. At times they echo one another; at others they challenge and respond, creating tension, release and moments of striking intimacy.
More than a fusion, this is a true conversation — where traditions do not compete, but illuminate one another. The result is a richly textured musical landscape in which East and West intertwine, revealing both contrast and harmony.
