Hailing from Stuttgart, Germany, Peter Schilling had a worldwide hit with the English language version of his catchy piece of German new wave music (NDW), “Major Tom (Coming Home)”.
Peter’s first album, “Fehler im System” went to #1 In Germany in 1982. The English language version, “Error In The System” reached #61 on the US album chart but went all the way to #1 in Canada.
At the end of the decade, Peter released “The Different Story (World Of Lust And Crime)” and it reached #61 on the Hot-100. It didn’t appear to have charted in his native Germany. The co-writer, Hubert Kemmler, led the group Hubert Kah and they had had a number of German hits (such as “Sternenhimmel” and “Engel 07”) in the early 80s. The other co-writer, Susan Müller-Pi, sang on the vocal version.
