South Coast Adventure: Waterfalls, Black Sand & Ice! Sky Lagoon & more...

For Day 3, we joined BusTravel Iceland’s South Coast: Waterfalls, Black Sand & Ice Tour—a 10-hour trip packed with breathtaking landscapes. Some of these stops were familiar from our Glacier Lagoon tour last year (still our favorite!), but we were excited to revisit.

🍳 Morning
We started the day with breakfast at Hotel Frón, then walked 4 minutes to Bus Stop 6, where our mini-bus was already waiting. It was a full tour, and the weather looked promising—at first!

📍 Stop 1: Skógafoss Waterfall
We had 40 minutes to explore. We climbed the 400+ steps to the top, but snowfall rolled in and blocked the view. Thankfully, the weather cleared up on the way down and we caught a beautiful rainbow near the falls.

📍 Stop 2: Sólheimajökull Glacier
The glacier was blanketed in snow, but we could still spot the turquoise ice peeking through. We had time to walk to the glacier's edge and take in the surreal landscape.

📍 Stop 3: Lunch in Vík
We stopped in Vík and tried Black Crust Pizzeria. A large pizza and drinks came to ~£34—expensive, but delicious!

📍 Stop 4: Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
The waves here are no joke. It’s one of Iceland’s most dangerous beaches, with several fatalities in recent years due to sneaker waves. Despite warnings, people still got too close.

The beach is stunning, though—jet-black volcanic sand and massive basalt columns. Easily one of the most dramatic sights of the day.

📍 Stop 5: Seljalandsfoss & Gljúfrabúi
We stopped at Seljalandsfoss, but once again, the path behind the waterfall was closed due to snow/ice (just like last year!).

Instead, we trekked to Gljúfrabúi, the “hidden” waterfall nearby. You wade through a stream into a gorge, where a roaring waterfall awaits. We got soaked—but it was so worth it!

🌆 Back in Reykjavík (~6:30 PM)
After a quick freshen-up, we headed out for the night.

🍺 Evening at The Bookshop Bar
Just a short walk from our hotel, we stumbled into The Bookshop Bar during comedy hour—some acts were great, others… less so.
We snagged a balcony seat and stayed all night.

💰 Prices: £35 for 3 half-pints, 3 Cokes, and a cookie (!)

At 9 PM, the resident band started playing and they were amazing. Everyone was up dancing in their seats!

🧳 Final Day: Sky Lagoon & Departure
We packed, walked 18 mins to the bus terminal, and stored our luggage in lockers.
We’d pre-booked transfers and Sky Lagoon admission (£9 transfers, ~£80 per adult). Even in freezing wind, it was worth it—especially with the newly renovated spa area!

After relaxing, we bussed back to the terminal, grabbed our pre booked Flybus, and headed to the airport.
