Bachmann Large Scale Toby the Tram Engine - DCC with Sound

Описание: Here's a short video showing my Bachmann Large Scale Toby in action again. Since the last time I featured this guy on the channel, I've made some upgrades to the model. One of those changes was adding DCC and sound to the model back at the end of 2023. This was achieved with Bachmann's Large Scale Thomas & Friends DCC sound module (part number 44958), which is actually made by Soundtraxx. While not too difficult to install and/or program, I was a little intimidated by this project at first. Detailed instructions and diagrams were included with the module, which helped to make sure I installed it correctly.

While I was in the process of installing the new sound system, I also took it upon myself to open up Toby's cab, since I was never really impressed with how Bachmann just blacked everything out. Most of the cutting was done with an X-axto knife, while some larger cuts were done with a Dremel tool. Sandpaper and files were used to do any remaining cleanup work, and to finish off the edges of the doors and windows. I used clear acrylic for glazing in the windows which was cut to size and glued in place. Because the cab was now open, I used custom cut pieces of Masonite and a PVC pipe to help hide the mechanism.

I shot this running footage during operating hours at the Allegheny Plateau Division module show this holiday season at the Dubois Mall. Sadly my Large Scale collection spends most of it's time up on a shelf these days, as trying to run it inside my house anymore just requires so much work. Still, I like taking opportunities like this to get everything out and have a play with it again.
