Best Paved Trail in Sarasota County Florida The Legacy Trail

18.5-mile to 23.2-mile, paved, multi-use rail trail in Sarasota County, Florida, connecting downtown Sarasota to the Venice Historic Train Depot. Open daily from sunrise to sunset.

In this video I take a 5-day reunion retreat with my dad and my sister on Lido Key and we bring along our e-bikes to check out the Legacy trail.

We start our e-bike ride at Payne Park which provides free Legacy Trail parking for 4 hours with assigned spots in the northeast corner of the park. For this specific trip we ride about 8.1 paved, flat miles with a couple of inclined bridges to Culverhouse Nature Park making a 16.2 miles round trip
total. This park has free parking, bike rack, clean restrooms, water fill station, green space for walking, picnic tables and little library stand.

We also take a look at the intercostal section of the trail from Shamrock Nature Center.

This highly popular and well-maintained trail offers rest station areas approximately every mile. We love the smooth ride including over the cross roads and the safe intersection crossings with many providing vehicle traffic signals or flashing warning pedestrian lights for vehicles to yield to trail users. Alerts are painted on the paved trail to warn users that an intersection is coming up.

The main trail stretches 18.5 miles from Fruitville Road in Sarasota to the Venice Train Depot, with recent extensions expanding the total network towards23 miles. It connects to the Venetian Waterway Park in Venice, which adds more miles along the Intracoastal Waterway.

The trail is designed for safe commuting and recreation, with a speed limit of 15 mph, no motorized vehicles (except E-bikes), and a requirement to keep right.
