Corresponding Debate: THBT the European Project has Failed

Описание: As a political entity the European Union is the first of its kind; an unprecedented endeavour born as a response to the extreme nationalism which devastated the continent in the early 20th century. European integration, seen as an antidote to the conflict, was the driving principle behind the establishment of the EEC, later the EU, and the strengthening of economic and cultural ties which consolidated the bloc into what is now considered by politicians and scholars to be a 21st century superpower. Yet this shared European identity seems increasingly fragile, as disaffection with the EU grows within member states, and conflicting economic and political interests clash. In the wake of the departure of the UK from the single market, and in the midst of an international crisis, some argue that cracks are appearing in the very foundation of the European project. What lies ahead for Europe?
