Why Is Kalisindh Phase 2 Project So Huge?
Using smart farming techniques like drip and sprinkler irrigation, MEIL is making sure water is used efficiently in Madhya Pradesh. This will benefit the farmers in the Khandwa district, where many people rely on farming. We're working on the second phase of the Kalisindh Micro Lift Irrigation Project to bring these modern farming methods to life.
This project aims to lift and supply water from the Indira Sagar Project reservoir to farmlands through a pressurised pipeline system. In the 2nd phase of Kalisindh works undertaken by MEIL, along with the pump houses, the power control room, power supply and lines for the main pipeline pumping stations are also being constructed. A pipeline network is crucial for any irrigation project. Here in this project, we are laying massive pipelines to irrigate a total of 2.75 lakh acres of land.
We are laying a 107-km-long pipeline with 4.6 metre dia, which is the biggest in India, in terms of irrigation. Once the pipeline gets completed, over 36 cumecs of water will be taken from Indira Sagar Project.
The construction of this pipeline is so massive that it requires over 2.5 lakh tonnes of MS steel plates for the main pipeline. Additionally, 1,20,000 tonnes of MS steel will be used for distribution pipes. In this project, we are using 390 km of DI pipes and 2,400 km of HDPE pipes. To ensure that water is supplied to every 6 acres of land, over 5,000 kms of HDPE pipes will be laid. Alongside the steel, 22,000 tonnes of cement and 50,000 tonnes of metal will be utilised.
Since we are laying high-capacity pipelines for this project, MEIL has set up 4 pipe manufacturing centres named Gwali, Ladawath, Punjapura and Birgod. Lowering and welding these pipes into the ground is a significant undertaking, which is why heavy machines will be used. The heavy machinery include 33 JCBs, 45 excavators, 18 hydras capable of carrying 14 tons each, and 118 cranes.
Once completed, this project will benefit the districts of Khandwa, Dewas, Shahapur and Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh.
Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) is a major infrastructure company headquartered in Hyderabad, India. The company was established in 1989 as a small fabrication unit. In due course of time, the unit made a name for itself. We are fired by the zeal to equip the country with an engineering and infrastructure foundation that can hold up its pillars for generations to come.
