Getting a credit card pre-approval typically means the card issuer has determined that you meet certain initial criteria–which may include credit score and credit history–and it is likely that the issuer will offer you a credit card if you apply. Think of credit card pre-approval as being invited to a job interview. It seems like a match, but you and the other party still need to assess whether it’s the right fit. For the issuer to make a final decision, you need to apply for the credit card so they can fully determine your credit eligibility. Keep in mind: Getting a pre-approved credit card offer does not affect your credit score, but applying for a credit card can affect your score.
