LED Retrofit Louvers Traffic Lights | Randolph & Congress

Описание: This video documents the unique and temporary traffic light setup at the intersection of Randolph Street and Congress Street in Downtown Detroit. This busy corner features a distinct optical solution seven 12-inch Durasig LED heads mounted on mast arms, heavily equipped with Louvers (blinders) to restrict visibility to specific lanes. The setup also includes a 2-way cluster.

The intersection is currently in a state of transition following the reconstruction of Cadillac Square to accommodate traffic flow into Randolph & Congress. You can see 2 signal heads covered facing Cadillac Square reflecting these recent pattern changes. Furthermore, the future is already marked on the sidewalk studs and mounts are visible indicating that a full replacement with new poles and signals is imminent. The pedestrian crossing is managed by a mix of 4 retrofitted Durasig pedestrian signals and 5 newer LED pedestrian signals.

It captures the use of louvers, which are essential in downtown areas with complex angles like the convergence of Cadillac Square to prevent drivers from seeing a Green intended for a different approach. Like the neighboring intersection at Larned the presence of anchor bolts means this vintage Durasig hardware is about to be retired.
