Opportunities and Challenges in Civilian-Military Humanitarian Coordination

Описание: From May 22-24, Brown University’s Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies held their 7th annual Civilian-Military Humanitarian Coordination research symposium and workshop, in collaboration with the U.S. Naval War College, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), and the UN World Food Program (WFP).

This year’s conference brought together international stakeholders and leaders from UN agencies, U.S. federal agencies, U.S. armed forces and allied militaries, international and local humanitarian non-governmental organizations, and the academe to discuss adaptive planning and crisis response in large-scale conflict. Participants identified opportunities and challenges and crafted guidance and recommendations that could advance future civilian-military humanitarian coordination and practice.

Please join the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda on Tuesday, June 13, at 9:00 a.m. ET for a discussion on the outputs from this year's conference. The panel will feature Adam Levine, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Health Services, Policy & Practice, and Director for the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies (CHRHS) at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University and Jonathan Robinson, Contracted Humanitarian Specialist at the U.S. Naval War College. The discussion will include a brief on the conference’s key findings by Alexandria Nylen, Research Associate for the Civil-Military Program at the CHRHS, and a moderated discussion on the challenges and opportunities to enhance civ-mil humanitarian coordination through improved research, dialogue, and multisectoral collaboration.

This event will be moderated by Jude Larnerd, Program Manager and Research Associate for the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda.
