We’ve just had an unforgettable stay on the Hokianga Harbour, just outside Opononi, and this spot seriously blew us away. With nearly 360-degree views, epic sunrises and sunsets, and plenty of drone-worthy scenery, this campsite felt like winning the lottery.
We even got the little boat in the water and explored the harbour, discovering some incredible, off-the-beaten-track places. Nicky and I managed to sneak in a date night floundering, while the kids made the most of beachcombing and adventure time.
If you’re new here, welcome! I’m Kane, and you’re travelling with my wife Nicky and our two kids, Hunter and Lila, in a tiny home that I built. We’re exploring New Zealand full-time and making the most of life on the road as a family.
This video also takes us to the incredible Wai’ere Boulders, a privately owned 143-hectare park featuring 2.8-million-year-old fluted basalt rock formations. With multiple walking tracks, lookout points, swimming holes, and even a café on site, it’s a must-visit if you’re exploring Northland.
We also check out some massive coastal boulders nearby — some of the largest in New Zealand, reaching up to 6 metres in diameter and best seen at low tide.
If you love tiny house living, off-grid travel, family adventures, and discovering hidden gems around New Zealand, you’re in the right place.
Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow along as we continue heading south on our journey.
