WEEKEND RECAP: Winter storm creates 50+ car crash pile up, dozens of injuries on I-80

Описание: A massive series of crashes along a six-mile stretch of Interstate 80 injured dozens of people and involved more than 50 vehicles Saturday morning, according to the West Branch Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched at 9:42 a.m. on Dec. 13 to the area near mile marker 262 for what officials described as a large-scale, multi-vehicle crash. Additional collisions quickly unfolded in both eastbound and westbound lanes, prompting authorities to extend the incident zone from the 256 mile marker to beyond 262.


The West Branch Fire Department established and maintained incident command, initially responding with three apparatus and assistance from the West Liberty Fire Department. As the situation escalated, the response grew to include the West Branch Police Department, Iowa City Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa State Patrol, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office and ambulance crews from West Liberty, Tipton, Durant, Wilton and Bennett.
