Here I show you how you can heat your side vents in a VW Cabriolet. This procedure is similar for all Cabriolets from 1980-1993.
I am not sure if this procedure would work on cabriolets which never had AC.
If someone with an original non-AC car could confirm that this is the same process, that would be great!
