Countries That Fought Wars Over Maps, Not Land

Not every war begins over land, resources, or religion. Some start with lines drawn on paper. Throughout history, poorly drawn maps, outdated borders, and cartographic errors have pushed countries into real conflict.
In 1830, a border mistake helped ignite the War of the Stray Dog between Greece and the Ottoman Empire. In 1895, conflicting maps nearly caused war between Britain and Venezuela. In 1962, mismatched colonial-era maps played a key role in the deadly conflict between India and China. Even in 1999, outdated maps led NATO to bomb the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, killing three people and nearly triggering a global crisis.
Maps are not neutral. They carry power, bias, and political intent. When leaders trust ink more than people, borders stop being symbols and start becoming weapons. History shows that sometimes, the most dangerous lines are the ones drawn on paper.
