WAXIT Party to contest next WA election on platform of secession

The WAXIT Party, vowing to bring about Western Australian secession, will contest the next state election as COVID-19 gave Western Australians a “nudge to wake up,” says party leader Russell Sewell.
Mr Sewell told Sky News there has always been an “underlying undercurrent” of secession amongst Western Australians.
“We’re often forgotten about and in many cases marginalised,” he said.
“COVID border closures, (and) what was happening with our economy has really emphasises that to many Western Australians, now is the time to go it alone”.
He said that the party’s platform is not about supporting Premier Mark McGowan’s border policy, but more aimed at improving the economy and development of Western Australia.
Western Australia has put up hard borders to the rest of the country for most of the coronavirus pandemic, and Mr Sewell accepted that this new reality gave people “that nudge to wake up”.
“It’s almost like a cold test for it.”
