Black Magic Woman Series (Part 2, 1 of 13) Now for Part 2. These are from the time I was active interested in the genre, from about 2005 onwards. Happy (possibly belated) psychedelic Halloween. ————— Most people only know the iconic Santana version from his 1970 album Abraxas, and don’t know that was actually a cover of a Fleetwood Mac single from 1968. This was the lesser known Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac; he founded the band and sang for the first three albums before leaving in 1970. There would be five years and six more albums before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined up and things really took off. Anyway, that makes this a cover of a cover, this time by psychedelic rock group Stonefield. You seemed to enjoy seeing Eivør and her sister perform, so here’s the FOUR Findlay sisters, from the tiny rural Australian hamlet of Darraweit Guim. They formed in 2006 (first as Iotah, then changing their name in 2010) with 16 year-old Amy Lee on drums/lead vocals, 13 year-old Hannah on lead guitar/vocals, 12 year-old Sarah on keyboards/vocals, and 8 year-old Holly on bass. They put out their first EP in 2010 and by 2011 they were playing Glastonbury, the largest music festival in the world. They’ve put out a total of four studio albums and two EPs, covering the full 70s crunchy riff gamut from psychedelic pop to stoner doom. This performance is from 2015 in Sydney.
