This weeks “Martha’s Collection” feature. ( I was generously donated a collection of antique and vintage garments by Martha’s family with items dating back to the 1850’s, and I feature one of the items each week.) I estimate the blouse to be from the 1900’s. As found, she was pretty sad with her silk taffeta lining all tattered and pieces missing. I was hopeful that the cotton net lace would be able to be washed and happy that it fared really well. I fully intended to put a new lining back in after cleaning, and even bought a piece of silk to do so, but once the old lining was out, I loved how the beauty of the lace stood out, so I didn’t line it ( I did however save all the lining scraps in case the new owner wants to try to make pattern pieces from them and add a lining) This project turned out to be more work than initially thought, but I feel it was so worth the effort. How lovely this could be to be worn for a wedding or other special event 120 years later!
