Stable and Active Notes

Описание: This video will show that not all notes corresponding to the different degrees of a major scale behave the same way in the flow of a melody. Some produce a sense of repose, giving the feeling that the end of a phrase or a piece has been reached, while others create a sense of tension, suggesting that the phrase must continue. We will explain the reason for this and see that it gives rise to a play between tension and repose that is key to the development of melodies in major keys in Western culture.
This study is closely related to the study of the harmonization of major scales and the function of the chords used in harmonizing a melody. It lays the foundation for understanding functional harmony in the tonal system.
The stability and activity of the notes influence the creation of cadences, chord sequences used to create points of repose and culmination in a musical work.
