Texada Island is rugged, remote, and full of mystery — and I explored it all while a grizzly bear was reportedly loose on the island. This is my most in-depth visit yet to British Columbia’s largest Gulf Island, packed with natural beauty, rich history, and a few surprises along the way.
In this video, I visit:
🏕️ The peaceful and scenic Shelter Point Campground
💧 The bright blue waters of Blue/Canyon Lake and Priest Lake
🛠️ Abandoned mining sites and forgotten equipment in Van Anda
🏝️ A low-tide crossing to an Island (with a wild backstory)
🌲 A hike to a hidden Lagoon and Stromberg Falls
🍟 A awesome burger and fries from the local concession
🐳 A lookout point known for spotting whales and marine life
All this, with a grizzly possibly roaming the island in the background. It was a bit of a surreal trip — a mix of adventure, isolation, and unexpected moments.
