Описание: Jose Luis Quintana “Changuito” is one of the most important percussionists of the 20th century. Beginning with his time in Los Van Van and through his high profile collaborations and instructional videos Changuito has shaped the percussion language within latin music and beyond for generations of percussionists. These are two different solos on the same tune, the descarga song Gadinga, Mondongo y Sandunga. Changuito’s space, phrasing, and rhythmic language uses over the barline rhythms, rudiments, and rumba language to create a captivating solo. Enjoy!

Amadito Vadles takes the second solo, on the version with Afro-Cuban Allstars. Another living legend, he has had a long career as the timbale player with Buena Vista Social Club and many of the other notable big bands and classic Cuban ensembles. His language shares much with Changuito’s with a bit more reference to Guillermo Barretto and the timbale playing style of the 50’s. Enjoy!

Jose Luis Quintana “Changuito” es uno de los percusionistas mas importantes del siglo 20. Desde su tiempo en Los Van Van y a través de su famosísima carrera y videos colaborativos y educacionales, Changuito ha reformado el lenguaje de la percusión dentro y más allá de la música latina para generaciones de percusionistas. He aquí dos solos distintos sobre la misma canción de descarga: “Gandinga, Mondongo y Sandunga”. Su sentido de espacio, fraseo, y lenguaje rítmico pone en práctica síncopas, rudimentos, y el lenguaje de la rumba para crear solos cautivadores.

El segundo solo es del timbalero Amadito Valdes, en la version del mismo tema interpretado por el grupo Afro-Cuban All Stars. Otra leyenda del instrumento, Amadito ha tenido una gran carera con el Buena Vista Social Club, y otra Big Bands y grupos de música tradicional Cubana. Su lenguaje musical tiene mucho en común con Changuito y se inspira de Guillermo Barretto y el stylo de los anos 50. ¡Que disfruten!
