Maria Modzelewska & Ork. dyr. Iwo Wesby’ego - Chciałabym a boję się (I'd like to, but I'm scared.) Original title: Happy Days Are Here Again (M.Ager - M. Hemar)Fokstrot z teatru Qui Pro Quo, Syrena-Electro 1930 (Polish)
NOTE: The great American hit "Happy Days Are Here Again" from 1929 was performed in 1930 in Poland on the stage of Warsaw's leading literary cabaret Qui Pro Quo, under the changed title "Chciałabym a boję się." (I’d Like To, But I’m Scared). It was an immediate hit, and the title became a humorous, popular phrase in Polish that has endured to this day. The song's lyrics were written by the renowned Polish poet Marian Hemar, with the image of his beloved, actress Maria Modzelewska, in mind, with whom he was in love. The two became one of the most popular artistic love couples in Warsaw in the 1930s. Marian Hemar wrote many songs for her, which became hits, such as "Remember Me" and "Pensylwania." However, when they finally married, they were far from a happy couple. She was too flirtatious for such a serious writer as Marian Hemar and had her own brief flings on the side while he suffered. Thus, their days were anything but happy. Despite this, the slideshow presents some various quite cheerful posters from interwar Poland.
