"WHAT IS A 'DRAFT' EHC PLAN?"
If the LA agrees to issue an EHC plan, they will first send parents a ‘draft’ version, also sometimes called a ‘proposed’ version. Parents have 15 days in which to make representations about it or ask for amendments before it is finalised. There will be no school named in Section I of the draft EHC plan. This is done so that parents can express a preference for their preferred school.
Parents also have the opportunity, if they so wish, to request a meeting with the LA to discuss the draft EHC plan, after which they have a further 15 days in which to make representations.
There is no actual fixed time limit by which an LA must finalise the EHC plan, other for them to make sure that the whole process from request to issuing the final EHC plan does not take more than 20 weeks.
