(28 Jun 2016) 'STAR TREK' PROPS, COSTUMES UP FOR AUCTION
Buyers may boldly bid their way into a piece of "Star Trek" history with an auction this week featuring props, costumes and scripts from the various franchises of the TV series.
The auction set to begin Wednesday (29 June 2016) is the largest offering of items in one auction from the original space exploration show. That's according to Brian Chanes of Profiles in History, based in Calabasas, California.
It includes costumes and scripts from the original series, which ran from 1966-1969, as well as key props that fans will recognize from well-known episodes.
"We have the pants as well worn by Kirk during the very famous episode called Arena, when he fought the lizard monster Gorn," Chanes said. "But one of my favorite things, I'll show you later, but it's one of the weapons from the planet Vulcan where Kirk fought Spock to the death. And it's very – as far as the 'Star Trek' aficionados, that's probably one of the most iconic weapons in all of the 'Star Trek' series."
Many of the items up for sale are from Patrick Stewart's collection -- including a "captain's chair" that Scott Bakula sent to Stewart when the set bridge chair was stolen.
Chanes said Bakula "wrote a little note to Patrick Stewart saying, 'Hey Captain, I understand you're having a hard time locating your chair. Here is one for you as a replacement.' So it's kind of a tongue-in-cheek, nice association there between Bakula and Patrick Stewart. So we have a lot of special things."
The auction, which comes as "Trek" marks its 50th anniversary this year, runs through Friday (1 July 2016).
