NOTE FROM TED: While some viewers may find this helpful as a complementary approach, please do not look to this talk as a substitute for mental health advice. This talk only represents the speaker’s personal views and understanding of trauma, the nervous system, and play. Several claims and theories discussed lack sufficient scientific support. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
In From Trauma to Connection, Cordie explores how reconnecting with the body through the seven senses can support healing after trauma. Drawing on lived experience, the talk shows how sensory awareness—sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, movement, and interoception can help regulate the nervous system, restore safety, and rebuild connection.
The talk reframes healing as a playful, embodied process, offering a compassionate pathway from survival to presence, agency, and meaningful connection. Cordie was born an adoptee in a small, white, German town, struggling with identity and belonging she rebelled against authority, norms and injustice. Her determined nature turned into a relentless drive to challenge the very systems prevented her from feeling seen and supported. With a career in complex behavioural change, she has led interventions for those navigating domestic abuse, addiction, criminality, and mental health struggles. Cordie is a qualified Social Worker, a Positive Intelligence (PQ) Coach, and a specialist in trauma-informed coaching and leadership development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
