FOREVER NOW - StepManiaX x UNBEATABLE video

This was one of three videos in one month, but I feel like this one came together the best of the bunch. This one had a strong direction from the beginning; the lyrics pretty clearly pointed to a passing of time, and I thought it would work nicely to show the same day passing from a lot of different, disconnected perspectives.

If anything, this was really fun just from the perspective of being able to grow as an artist. Technical ability doesn't necessarily translate to artistic impact, but I was just having fun each day figuring out some quirk of how UNBEATABLE renders or how to do something fun and visually striking in Blender. Things like having fake wind for the flower fields, contact ripples and waves for stylized bodies of water, or varying plant life were all fun things that also just ended up helping the whole thing come together. The whole thing started moving almost immediately after PROPER RHYTHM wrapped up, as it still bothered me how UNBEATABLE was rendering edge lighting on flat characters without some sort of image map. Once I got that working (their solution is brilliantly simple and works shockingly well), everything else became a matter of "well if that could work so well with just a few simple tricks, what about the rest?"

I don't think I remade UNBEATABLE by any stretch, but I made something that feels like, well, StepManiaX and UNBEATABLE put together. The fun thing about not just this collaboration, but every one that has happened so far is looking at everyone's interpretation of a game that's just a little bit of a mystery to all of us. We're all looking at the same painting, and coming away with a different conclusion.
