Since last week I've been hearing an intermittent chain rattle. Sounds like a chain slapping. Start for a couple of seconds and then stops for a few. Only happens with a cold start and is completely gone after driving a few hundred meters or when the engine is a bit warm.
Upper timing chain tensioner? I've been reading loads on this topic but any experience or opinions on what this is and how to deal with it would be appreciated. Thanks
Somehow it's louder on video than IRL.
**** UPDATE ****
The noise didn't sit right with me hence I decided to replace the timing chain including all tensioners. Good thing that I did: pieces of plastic from both upper timing chain tensioners were broken and that's what causing this 'chain slapping' / sound. The TSB re. the 2-3 sec. time rattle on start-up is complete BS as this doesn't occur when the 3.0T is straight from the factory or timing chain and tensioners have been replaced.
