🚆✨ 170 Years of NSW Railways ✨🚆
We celebrated this huge milestone at the Transport Heritage Expo 2025 and it was epic 🙌
Highlights of the day:
• Riding a special S Set over the Harbour Bridge to Lavender Bay 🌉 – once the old North Shore terminus and one of Sydney’s rarest train stops!
• While Mummy loved the Lavender Bay views, Harry’s favourite moment was scoping out the XPT up close (he also thought the S Set was a bit noisy 😝🤓🚆).
🤯 Fun Train Facts:
• On 26 September 1855, the first passenger railway line in NSW opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (just west of today’s Granville Station).
• Bonus fun fact: that date also happens to be Harry’s mum’s birthday 🥳 (…but not the same year, promise! 😉).
• S Sets ran from 1972–2019 and were nicknamed “Tin Cans” or “Sweat Sets” 🥵 because they were the last non–air con trains in the Sydney fleet. Lucky we went on the coolest day of the expo 😅.
• Out of 509 carriages built, only 16 survive today.
• Lavender Bay sits tucked beneath the Harbour Bridge – and hardly any passenger trains ever go there!
It was the perfect mix of history, hidden rail gems and Harry’s favourite trains 🚆💜
