Roots Le Roux performing Catholic Charities Bed, a roots music song that's not quite Blues and not quite Folk. It's a celebration of the people who are part of the un-housed and sheltered community and the people who serve that community. The song provides practical insights into daily survival, presented in a catchy tune and upbeat vibe. Two members of the band have experienced homelessness and this song was written on a borrowed piece of paper and a pencil from the front desk at the Murphy Center, which is a community center that provides practical help to the homeless community of Fort Collins, Colorado; after having lined up for a free meal and a cot in the common room at Catholic Charities House for the night; the singer/songwriter found herself at the Murphy Center and was surprised by how safe she felt, surrounded by people laughing and talking and getting the supplies they'd need for the day, picking up mail and snacks, making appointments with social workers from every imaginable organization, sorting out showers and laundry and the stuff of life. Wanting to retain this feeling of safety and community, she went to the front desk to borrow paper and pencil, then sat down at a table with nothing but a big black trash bag with some papers and a single change of clothes which she'd gotten for free the night before at the shelter. This song was filmed on Rhonda's phone. The band plans to release the song in 2026 as part of their debut album 'Homecoming and Home Truths'. These are the lyrics she wrote on her first day as a person with no destination and nowhere to call home, the day she was surprised to find herself doing okay, connected with people, having meaningful conversations with all sorts of people. It's a song of hope lived. Hard times survived. Friendships welded through fire.
