I pushed the engine a bit further and can now run a 60-million-particle simulation at 60 fps.
Artifacting is getting ridiculous, making it almost impossible to record anything that adequately shows how smooth this is.
Custom C-based engine:

GLFW for windowing
GLAD for OpenGL loading
cglm for math
imgui for UI elements
