Even with color-coded lines, cutting your size from a pattern amongst 9 other sizes can be a not so fun part of sewing 😆 But most PDF patterns (and definitely all of mine ❤️) come with “layers” meaning each size of the pattern is saved as its own layer of the pattern and all the layers are stacked on top of one another when you purchase the pattern with all sizes. So with layers, you can unselect the sizes you don’t want to print, leaving just your size. Here’s how:
1. Download Adobe Reader (it’s free)
2. Open your pattern (A0 or tiled) in Adobe Reader
3. In the right hand side menu, toggle the layers icon (it looks like 2 pieces of paper stacked)
4. You’ll see a new menu pop out with all the pattern sizes
5. Unselect any sizes you don’t need.
6. Keep the base layer or layer called “pattern info” (that’s your grainline and pattern piece name)
7. Once you have the size you’d like, print!
8. Be sure to print “actual size” not “scale to fit” so the pattern keeps the intended proportions.
I have a blog post with screenshots walking through the process, too: https://sewingandthecity.com/pattern-...
Did you know about layers? Do you like using them when you print?
