Learn how to make Old-fashioned glazed, old fashioned sugar and old-fashioned plain classic cake donuts! These are my favourite easy cake donuts! They have the classic flavour with an extra punch with the addition of cinnamon and extra nutmeg, these delicious donuts are sure to please! The texture is light and airy and the donuts are very moist. This recipe is very easy to make with no yeast required for these cake doughnuts and no mixer needed. These donuts are baked instead of fried, but still taste as good as the carnival mini donuts! This easy baked cake doughnut recipe will make 12 regular donuts or 24-36 mini donuts depending how full you fill your pans. Join me each week for a new easy recipe!
Donut Ingredients:
1 + 1/2 Cup All purpose flour
1 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Sea salt
2 Teaspoons Baking powder
1 Large egg
1 Cup White sugar
1/4 Cup Vegetable oil
3/4 Cup Milk
1 Teaspoon Vanilla extract
Sugar Coating Ingredients:
3 Tablespoons White sugar
1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon
2 Tablespoons melted butter
Glaze ingredients:
1/2 Cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon water
1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F/175C. Grease your donut/mini donut pans. In a medium bowl combine flour, spices, salt, and baking powder. Whisk until well combined and set aside. In a large bowl whisk together the egg and white sugar until well combined. The mixture will be noticeably lighter in colour. Add in the oil, milk and vanilla. Whisk until it is well incorporated. Add your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients and mix with a spatula until the batter is smooth. If using, transfer your batter to a piping bag. Using your piping bag, a spoon or measuring cup fill your greased donut pans 3/4 full for full sized donuts and 1/2 full for mini donuts. Full sized donuts will bake 8-10 minutes and the mini size will only take 6-8 minutes. You'll know they are done when the underside is lightly browned and they are springy to the touch. Once baked immediately remove the donuts from the pan as soon as they have cooled enough to handle. Hot donuts will release much more easily! If they're difficult to remove a silicone spatula is a great tool to get them to release!
For the Sugared donuts combine 3 Tablespoons of white sugar and 1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon. Whisk until combined. Melt 2 Tablespoons of butter. Brush the donuts with melted butter and then dip both sides and all edges into the cinnamon sugar mixture ensuring that it is evenly coated.
For the glazed donuts combine powdered sugar, water and vanilla and whisk until smooth. Dip your cooled donuts into the glaze ensuring that they have a even coating. Allow extra glaze to drip off and place on a wire rack to set, this will take about an hour.
For the plain donuts you can enjoy them straight out of the pan!
