2. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Kim Reynolds, (R) Iowa:
“I had the opportunity to speak with Sergeant Coady's father and Major O'Brien's wife to not only offer my condolences, my prayers, and of course our unending support to meet any need that they may have, but to just reassure them how proud we are of their loved ones that sacrificed their life on behalf of our country. As you can imagine, they're heartbroken, and as Iowans, we grieve with them and their families.”

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Kim Reynolds, (R) Iowa:
“Losing four soldiers from Iowa in the course of three months is a sobering reminder that our freedom is not free. It demands sacrifice and the kind of service that these heroes and their families have made on behalf of all of us. And it's why our support for the men and women who wear our nation's uniform is so important.”

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Kim Reynolds, (R) Iowa:
“What I can tell you is that we are aware of the injured soldiers and I can confirm that they have been safely evacuated to Germany. So all of them are out of theater and are in Germany. And so they're still, I do believe they notified families of the soldiers, but I'm not gonna, I'll let him or I would, you know, probably let the Department of War confirm the numbers. And I'm sure that you know that will be happening at some point.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Kim Reynolds, (R) Iowa:
“I believe in the mission right now, I think it was the right thing to do. I do, I just look at what Iran has done over the last several years and so I support what they're doing and hopefully we're in and out. I believe that is the goal of this administration, they've made it very clear.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Kim Reynolds, (R) Iowa:
“You know, they didn't learn from the first lesson, so they were already actively working on creating a nuclear bomb and enhancing and developing ballistic missiles at a rapid pace and so at some point they're going to figure out how to put a warhead on a ballistic missile that can make it not only to Europe and to the surrounding middle east but to America and so you know they tried to negotiate and it just wasn't successful they weren't I don't believe it you know from what we're hearing agree to the terms you know I haven't had any direct context, that’s my personal opinion.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Governor Kim Reynolds, (R) Iowa:
“As I said, when I was over there visiting them, every soldier that I talked to believed in the mission, and they were proud to be a part of it, and believed they were doing the right thing, the ones that I talked to.”

STORYLINE:
Six members of the Army Reserve, who worked in logistics and kept troops supplied with food and equipment, died Sunday when a drone hit a command center in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, one day after the U.S. and Israel launched its military campaign against Iran. Iran responded by launching missiles and drones against Israel and several Gulf Arab states that host U.S. armed forces.
Among the six soldiers who died were two Iowans; Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien, 45, of Indianola, and Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of West Des Moines.
“As you can imagine, they're heartbroken, and as Iowans, we grieve with them and their families,” said Reynolds.
