Se trata de una celebración de cambio de estación que supone una llegada anticipada de la primavera (demasiado anticipada, diría yo, a juzgar por las repetidas nevadas que hubo en dias y semanas posteriores). En el setsubun, hay una serie de rituales y tradicionales con un fin principal de atraer la buena suerte y alejar todo lo malo y negativo en el año que da comienzo: por eso existe la costumbre de ahuyentar a los Oni (demonios u ogros 👹 japoneses) con alubias tostadas. [EN] Setsubun is one of the biggest festivals of the Japanese winter. It is a celebration of the change of season that marks the early arrival of spring (too early, I would say, judging by the repeated snowfalls that occurred in the days and weeks that followed). During Setsubun, there are a series of rituals and traditions with the main purpose of attracting good luck and warding off all the bad and negative things in the year that is beginning: that is why there is a custom of chasing away the Oni (Japanese demons or ogres 👹) with roasted beans.
