After 32 years away, I’m finally back in the city where I was born and raised — Barrie, Ontario. And I’m not just visiting… I’m exploring it behind the wheel of a stunning Maserati Levante.
This trip hits different.
I currently work as an Oil & Gas camp worker at an oil rig camp in Northern Alberta, putting in 273 hours every 3 weeks. It’s long days, hard work, and remote living — but after that grind, I get one week off to go wherever I want.

This time, I chose to go home.

I flew east and arranged to have this $170,000 luxury SUV waiting for me. There’s something surreal about driving through your childhood streets in a vehicle like this — especially when you haven’t seen the place in over three decades.

Barrie has expanded massively. New high-rises, new businesses, government regulation changes (yes — beer and wine now sold in convenience stores), malls transformed, churches gone, restaurants replaced. But some things? They haven’t changed at all.

And that hits you right in the chest.

There’s something powerful about driving past your grandmother’s house, trying to locate your father’s old home, and seeing parks that look exactly the same as they did when you were a kid.

Time moves. Cities grow. But memories stick.
