'The Cave of Wonders' is the score for the stunning action adventure sequence of Disney's animated classic, Aladdin (1992). This score cue heavily references the character leitmotifs for Jafar, as well as song melodies from "Arabian Nights", "One Jump Ahead" (riff-raff, street rat), and "Friend Like Me". In this scene, Aladdin is brought to the Cave of Wonders by a mysterious peddler from the prison. Aladdin and Abu enter the cave's depths and discover a magic carpet, and the storied magic lamp. Havoc ensues when the cave erupts into a fiery pit. Composer Alan Menken spoke of this cue, "I had a ball writing this! Like scoring a roller-coaster ride."

Aladdin (1992) was the winner of 2 Academy Awards (best original score and best original song), with many more Oscar winnings to follow for Alan Menken. Orchestrations for the film were done by Danny Troob and Michael Starobin, elevating Menken’s modern Broadway sensibility with rich, symphonic textures in Menken's signature thematic style.
