Breathing while executing tennis strokes is crucial. Many recreational players hold their breath when they hit strokes. High-level players on the other hand exhale on all strokes and sometimes produce sounds. These sounds are called grunts and occur intuitively without players having any control over them. Of course, grunts are sometimes fabricated and prolonged and this can be seen as a hindrance to the opponent. When I play tennis with intensity my exhaling is accompanied by a grunt. And watching myself play over the last few years I noticed something peculiar. I grunt like Djokovic...
