Batik: An Ancient Art of Painting | A part of Balinese art and culture.

Описание: This v-Blog is about my visit to a Batik factory in Denpasar, Bali. I would say this was one of the best things I did out there.

I have always been keen of painting ever since my childhood and this is what attracts me so passionately. I'm not just talking about painting as my hobby but it is about any art and culture in general that keeps me attracted. Batik is one of such things.

Batik is an ancient art of painting, has evolved as the cultural identity of Indonesia. I was really wanting to know what is it in fact, was wanting to see live making of batik prints on cloth.

I got chance to visit a Batik factory in Denpasar. Knowing and watching how batik is produced was very interesting. I could see weaving and knew how batik prints is made on cloth. Batik is basically a fabric dyeing method using wax to create patterns and designs. These paintings are done by some sort of pen unlike using paint and brush as we do in India.

It was lovely to interact with a lady operating a manual loom. She was using colored threads on a loom to make beautiful fabrics. The process was slow and laborious but fascinating to watch.

In the other section, I very much liked seeing the batik artists applying wax patterns or probably they were drawing outlines with wax on fabric. Process of removing wax and dying the fabrics in the different stages is specific to the batiks which I knew it but could see it happening.

Overall, It was very refreshing and well worth to walk around.

On the way back from Ubud to this Batik factory in Denpasar, I noticed spread of volcano ash in the air. Lucky me! for witnessing this Agung event.

Agung erupted in January, June, July and December 2018. I was there on 5th July, right after it erupted on 29 June 2018. It was continuously spewing lava and ash for over a week. I went there, though it was calculated a risk.

Mount Agung's eruption had led to more than 300 flights being canceled. I was literally worried but reached home back safely.
