Alice Walker, October 2, 1980, talks on Zora Neale Hurston, citing her hometown of Eatonville, Florida, while entertaining questions from her audience after speaking on Hurston and sharing stories from black folktales Hurston collected and wrote up in her book Mules and Men (1935). The full-program video includes Walker talking on Hurston, reading from scholar Mary Helen Washington's introduction to I Love Myself When I Am Laughing...And Then Again When I Am Looking Mean and Impressive: A Zora Neale Hurston Reader (edited by Walker, The Feminist Press, 1978), telling some stories, and reading stories from Mules and Men, before responding to questions from her audience at The Poetry Center, San Francisco State University.
