I learned this technique while studying under Patrick Pfeiffer during my own private lessons which changed the entire way I look at my fretting hand. It drastically opened up an entire new world of playing for me which I know will have the same effect for you as well.
Using our trailing finger which would be our index finger while ascending or our pinky while descending we can play notes without even looking at the the fingers being used to play the actual notes themselves. This leads to faith in the notes because they will always for correct due to our hand being in perfect position to execute what ever sequence of notes we set out to play. A direct result of this is not just faster playing but faster AND articulate playing that is consistent each and every time.
