Alessandro Morelli (1875-1918): Speranze Perdute (Lost Hope, Espoirs perdus).
I have recorded this classic Italian waltz a few times before, but made an updated version after listening to the wonderfully atmospheric rendition by Mike Guggino and Barrett Smith on their recent album "Mia Dolce Farfalla" -- I've always thought this tune benefits from being played slower than the usual breakneck speed, and with a bit of rubato rather than strict tempo.
