Can Beatrice Chebet Break 14 Minutes on the Track?
No woman has ever run under 14:00 in the 5000m on the track—but Beatrice Chebet already has on the road.
🏃♀️ In February 2024, Chebet made history in Barcelona, becoming the first woman ever to run a sub-14 5K on the road, clocking 13:59.
🔥 Fast forward to June 6, 2025—she nearly did it again, this time on the track. At the Rome Diamond League, Chebet ran 14:03.69, the second-fastest time in history.
💥 The women's 5000m has been dominated by Ethiopians and Kenyans. The current world record—14:00.21—was set by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay in 2023.
📉 Tsegay hasn’t come close to her record-breaking form since that run in Oregon. Despite being a legend in both the 1500m and 5000m, the spotlight may be shifting.
👑 With her track record, consistency, and now that blistering 14:03, Chebet might just be the first to officially break the 14-minute barrier on the track.
