Budapest through the eyes of Krúdy

SO, as the title suggests, this episode is about Krúdy Gyula. Who was he? Well, you are going to have to watch to find out. But I'll tell you this much, he was a god damn legend.

I got the idea and inspiration for this episode in the episode we posted yesterday. If you notice at the beginning I picked up a few books from an English language bookstore on Gutenberg Ter (   • Budapest neighborhood walking tour || dist...  ) and one of them was The Adventures of Sindbad by Krúdy Gyula.

As I was leafing through the book I realized how perfect he was as a topic of study. You see I'm writing my first novel right now and I have become utterly obsessed with turn of the 20th century Budapest. And there is probably no better writer in the world to learn about that time period from. Especially if you are, as I am, interested in pubs, resturaunts, hotels and the life of the street. That was Krúdys specialty.

I hope that you all enjoyed watching this episode as much as I enjoyed making it. We set out on our journey from Szentendre to Óbuda as that was where Krúdy has two statues. It is also where his life came to an end in the year 1933.

But we retraced his footsteps backwards through the city, cruising past the Astoria hotel and through the palace district in Józsefváros. Finally we settled down for a pint at the end of Krúdy street at the pub that goes by his name.
