The House GOP Oversight Committee on Monday released former President Bill Clinton’s four-hour deposition where he was questioned about his relationship with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein died in prison in 2019 after he was convicted of sex trafficking minors. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also questioned about her relationship with Epstein.
Here are the top 10 moments from the deposition:
1. Clinton admits he took plane trips with Epstein
“I did take those plane trips with him and you have the right to ask those questions,” he said.
In correspondence with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the Department of Justice released many photos of Epstein and who he was associated with. There were pictures of Clinton and Epstein on a plane together.
2. Clinton was asked about allegedly getting back rubs during flights with Epstein
Clinton was asked during his deposition about a young woman who went on a 2000 trip to Africa.
“Was she or any other young female on that trip underage at that time?” the interviewer asked Clinton.
“Not that I’m aware of,” he answered.
He said that he did get a back rub while he was on the trip.
3. Clinton denied that he ever visited Epstein’s island
“Did you ever visit Epstein’s Little Saint James island?” Clinton was asked.
“No,” he answered.
4. Clinton was asked if believes he and Hillary Clinton were targets in some sort of intelligence operation
“I don’t,” Clinton answered when asked if he knows if he was targeted. “I’d sort of be surprised, but I don’t know.”
5. Clinton says he wrote Epstein a letter for his 50th birthday
“Why did you write this letter?” the interviewer asked Clinton.
“Why did I?” he answered. “Because I was requested to contribute a nice letter for his birthday book.”
He says he has no recollection of who asked him to write the letter.
6. Clinton said the letter he wrote was “not a bad letter”
In the letter, Clinton mentioned the word “errors” in reference to how people make mistakes as they live a long life. He said that word was not in reference to any illegal activity Epstein was doing with underage girls.
7. Clinton confirms hot tub picture taken of him in Brunei
During the deposition, Clinton was asked about a picture of him in a hot tub which was taken in Brunei
“Do you recall the details of this photo or recall the photo being taken?” Clinton was asked.
“No,” he answered. “I don’t think I ever knew the photo was taken.”
He did confirm that the hot tub picture was from Brunei
8. Clinton described his relationship with Epstein as “cordial"
“During the time, I was cordial,” Clinton said when asked about Epstein.
When asked if the former president considered Epstein a friend, he responded with, “We were friendly, but I didn’t know him well enough to say we were friends.”
9. Clinton said he is coming up on his 80th birthday, but said he tries to remember details
“I’ll have to be honest with youI’ll be 80 years old if I live until my next birthday,” he said. “I don’t remember everything that happened 24 years ago. But I do remember some things, and I will tell you what I remember as best as I can.”
10. Clinton described Epstein as a vacuum cleaner
“Well, at first, he really seemed to be like a vacuum cleaner, like he really wanted information. There was nothing overtly manipulative about it,” Clinton said.
He said that Epstein wanted to know his thoughts on things like the stock market and derivative trading.
The Clintons have not been charged in relation to any crimes due to their association with Epstein.
