The place had been empty long enough for the years to show in every corner. I started from the outside — the facade, the roof, everything the weather had worked on while nobody was watching. Then inside, room by room: walls, floors, ceilings, every surface brought back to something that resembled what I remembered as a kid. Not a renovation for someone else — a restoration for what the house meant, and what it still could be.

Some buildings are worth saving because of what they are. This one was worth saving because of what it was to me.
