Melissa McCarthy was told that she was going to have a hard time making it in the entertainment industry when she first came to Hollywood in 1996. Thankfully, this didn’t end up being the case. In 2000, she received her first big break when she was cast as the supporting character Sookie St. James in the series Gilmore Girls. The character quickly became a fan favorite. When Gilmore Girls came off the air, Melissa was given a starring role on her very own sitcom, titled Mike & Molly. A year later, Melissa appeared in the 2011 comedy film Bridesmaids.
