In this episode of Discover Marijuana, we explore how cannabis treats nausea, and some of the cannabis delivery methods nausea patients can use to feel better.

Some patients like to use tinctures for treating nausea, while others find tinctures upset their stomachs.

Each of Utah's Medical Cannabis pharmacies employ pharmacists like Kylee Shumway, Pharmacist in Charge at WholesomeCo in Bountiful. By consulting with Shumway or another cannabis pharmacist, nausea patients can start to pinpoint the strains, cannabinoid ratios, delivery methods, and doses that work best.

Sometimes cannabis is used to mask nausea rather than treat the root cause. Cannabigerol (CBG), on the other hand, can reduce inflammation in the gut, one of the causes of nausea.

Another way cannabis helps with nausea is by stimulating appetite, or causing "the munchies." This is especially helpful in cases where patients don't feel like eating because they're nauseous, but eating is exactly what they need to make their nausea go away.

It's possible to make nausea worse by using too much delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Shumway tells us this has only been an issue for a couple of her patients. In fact, most of her patients seek treatments that don't cause psychoactivity, or the "high" feeling associated with cannabis.

Anxiety-related nausea might be better-relieved by using cannabis products with cannabinol (CBN), which has an anti-anxiety affect.
